5-HR/WEEK General Statement of Duties:
Performs responsible technical inspectional field and office work involving the enforcement of county resolutions, codes and regulations; does related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
The work in this class involves responsibility for the enforcement of county environmental resolutions, codes and regulations.
General programs and policies are determined by a technical and administrative superior, and specific decisions are made in accordance with applicable resolutions, codes and regulations.
Work is subject to supervision by the Planning Director.
Examples of Work:
(Illustrative Only) -serve as an enforcing officer of the County's Zoning Resolution; -conducts inspections for zoning and code enforcement; -enforces local resolutions involving overgrown lots, trash, junk, abandoned vehicles, dilapidated property and other nuisances; -oversees the clean-up process of properties; -investigates calls regarding complaints of property nuisances; -attend meetings as assigned; -coordinates with County Attorney's Office in preparation for trial through investigation; -interacts with the public, elected officials, County staff and other public entities; -makes a variety of other zoning related inspections; -performs related tasks as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of county resolutions, codes and regulations applicable to public nuisances and sanitation; some knowledge of the modern principles, techniques and practices of environmental sanitation; ability to enforce county resolutions, codes and regulations tactfully, firmly and impartially; ability to make technical inspections and to arrive at independent decisions on the basis of such inspections; ability to make clear and concise reports and recommendations; ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with operators of establishments inspected, subordinates, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
Extended periods of sitting at a workstation or desk.
Manual dexterity to work efficiently on a computer keyboard for data entry.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Graduation from high school or GED and completion of job-related college courses and some experience in public health codes and enforcement; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Valid TN Driver's License required.
Other Requisites:
From time to time the incumbent may be assigned special duties by a superior or, on a temporary basis, may be asked to assist other employees occupying a different position.
